Bingo began at Colusa in 1986, and today, it is one of the casino's biggest games. Every month, the casino doles out more than $500,000 in payouts. On Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, regular games pay $1,000; on Sundays regular games offer minimum payouts of $1,199.
This Sunday, in a promotion dubbed Mid Month Money, regular games will pay out $1,500 apiece, and one board will net one winner $3,000. On April 6, the casino will host a Marathon Cash Back day, where 20 regular games will pay $1,800, and five raffle drawings will net winners $1,000 apiece.
Colusa also regularly offers a number of high-stakes bingo games, including Bonanza, G-Ball, Pick 8, Super Jackpot, Odd-Even and Colusa Gold. Some of the jackpots for these games have exceeded $6,500. The jackpot for the Odd-Even game, a type of cover-all bingo, was a whopping $42,213.
Most of Colusa's daily bingo sessions last about five hours. Weekday sessions start at 6 p.m., and weekend sessions begin at noon. The games take place in the casino's 7,500-square-foot bingo hall. The room, which is in a corner of the casino, seats 700 and is frequently sold out.
David McGee, assistant general manger for the resort, says some guests line up for hours before the doors open. McGee adds that with bigger jackpots and servers to deliver food, Colusa bingo makes community bingo seem like the minor leagues.
'Charity bingo is important, but this is vastly different,' he says. 'With us, it's a total event, and that's what keeps people coming back for more.'
Colusa Casino Bingo Calendar
Colusa enables players to buy in for bingo in a number of ways. Three-packs of paper boards sell for $5 to $18 (depending on the day), and extras are $6 or $8 apiece. The casino also rents out electronic bingo units from GameTech that daub numbers automatically.
For the price of admission, players receive unlimited coffee and soft drinks. Certain days also offer special promotions; on Mondays in March, for example, all players with a birthday this month receive free buy-in.
Colusa is roughly two hours from San Francisco, but the casino contracts with independent bus companies to provide regular service from the South Bay, Peninsula, North Bay and East Bay. New for this year, the casino also is offering a $170 Bingo Bed & Breakfast promotion that includes a standard hotel room, bingo buy-in and breakfast at Seasons Buffet for two on Friday and Saturday nights.
